Storm Chasers victorious in PCL playoffs

KANSAS CITY -- Omaha, the Royals' Triple-A affiliate, posted a 3-1 win over Oklahoma City on Wednesday night in the opening game of the Pacific Coast League American Conference semifinals. The first two games of the best-of-five series are being played in Oklahoma City before shifting to Omaha for the remaining games.

Game 2 is slated for 7:05 p.m. CT on Thursday.

Christian Colon, a former first-round Draft pick and the Royals' No. 17 prospect, according to MLB.com, went 2-for-4 with a double, home run and two RBIs. Right-hander Brian Sanches pitched 5 2/3 scoreless innings for the victory while Michael Mariot earned the save.

Omaha, the Northern Division champion, holds a 10-8 edge in the season series against Oklahoma City. However, the Storm Chasers are 4-5 on the road.

Rookie level Idaho Falls is also playoff bound following a 12-7 victory against Orem on Wednesday. The Chukars clinched the Pioneer League South for their first playoff berth since 2007 -- ending the longest playoff drought in the league. They will host a playoff game on Monday and one on Sept. 14 should they advance past Grand Junction.
