June 4, 1990: First overall pick

Chipper Jones was taken by the Braves with the first pick in the 1990 Draft. He would spend his entire career with Atlanta and join Ken Griffey Jr. as the only top overall picks to be elected to Baseball’s Hall of Fame

May 9, 1995: First big blast

Jones’ first career homer was a go-ahead ninth-inning shot off Josias Manzanillo, the first of 49 homers he’d hit against the Mets

Oct. 3, 1995: Hello, postseason

Jones hit a solo shot in the sixth inning of his postseason debut in Game 1 of the 1995 Division Series at Coors Field, then he ripped a go-ahead homer with two outs in the ninth that gave the Braves a 5-4 win over the Rockies

Oct. 22, 1995: First Series hit

Jones’ double off Dennis Martinez in Game 2 of the 1995 Fall Classic helped Atlanta to its first World Series win while producing a 1.064 OPS during the 1995 postseason

Sept. 21, 1999: MVP homers

Jones cemented his only National League MVP Award and the Braves secured an NL East title when he homered four times during a key three-game series against the Mets, including twice in the series opener, a 2-1 Atlanta win

July 11, 2000: Hometown treat

Jones went 3-for-3 with a homer in the 2000 All-Star Game at Turner Field, the first time Georgia hosted a Midsummer Classic since Hank Aaron homered in front of the hometown fans in 1972

July 16, 2006: MLB record

Jones tied an MLB record when he recorded an extra-base hit in a 14th consecutive game during a 10-5 win in San Diego. The only other MLB player to record an extra-base hit streak this long was the Pirates’ Paul Waner in 1927

Aug. 14, 2006: Thrice as nice

Jones’ only three-homer game came in his final three plate appearances during a 10-4 win over the Nationals on Aug. 14, 2006, at RFK Stadium

June 5, 2008: 400th homer

Jones became just the third switch-hitter to record at least 400 home runs. The Hall of Famer likely would have reached 500 homers had two ACL tears not cost him all of the 1994 season and most of 2010’s final two months

Sept. 28, 2008: Batting title

Jones secured the only batting title of his career when his .364 average remained ahead of Albert Pujols’ .357 mark as the season ended

The last of Jones’ 468 career homers ended a memorable 8-7 comeback win over the Phillies on Sept. 2, 2012. His walk-off three-run homer off Jonathan Papelbon capped a five-run ninth
