Castellanos to start Monday against White Sox

KANSAS CITY -- After making his first Major League start on Saturday, Nick Castellanos will get another opportunity to make an impression on Monday against the White Sox. Tigers manager Jim Leyland said he plans to start Castellanos in left field against Chicago left-hander Chris Sale.

Castellanos went 1-for-2 in his starting debut against the Royals. He hit one ball hard that was turned into an out and then beat out a slow roller to the right side.

"He looks very confident in the batter's box," Leyland said. "Whether that's going to mean instant results, I don't know about that. Some guys come up here and tear it up right away. Then [the pitchers] figure it out and they have to readjust.

"Other guys struggle at the start and then catch up with the speed of the game up here. So, you never know how it's going to play out. But I do think, in the little bit I've seen of him, that at some point Nick Castellanos is going to be a good big league hitter. Let the kid get out there and play."
