Aug. 31: Walks and scores in clash with Bobby Witt Jr.
Spencer Torkelson had a modest day at the plate, as the No. 4 overall prospect walked and scored in a hitless day for Triple-A Toledo. Torkelson went 0-for-3 at the dish. The show was stolen by fellow top prospect Bobby Witt Jr., though, as MLB Pipeline's No. 3 overall prospect drove in three runs in the series opener. Gameday »

Aug. 29: Reaches twice in second game Sunday
Spencer Torkelson reached base twice in Sunday's regularly scheduled game, going 0-for-2 with a pair of walks in addition to a run scored and an RBI. MLB Pipeline's No. 4 overall prospect has posted just a .188 batting average (9-for-48) since being promoted to Triple-A, but actually has a .985 OPS across his last five games thanks to his power and advanced approach at the plate. Aug. 28: Smacks game-tying homer in suspended game
Tigers top prospect Spencer Torkelson sent a game-tying solo homer to center field with one out in the bottom of the ninth, forcing the game into extras as well as setting up a rare curfew suspension after the 13th inning of play. It was his second long ball at the Triple-A level and came off of 10-year MLB veteran Nick Vincent. Torkelson also drove in a run in the sixth off a sacrifice fly and was intentionally walked in the 11th inning. Overall, the 21-year-old infielder went 1-for-4 at the plate, walking and scoring twice in addition to his two RBIs. Toledo won 10-9 after play resumed Sunday afternoon. Gameday »

Aug. 27: Smacks two-run double in Toledo's offensive surge
Spencer Torkelson is starting to show signs of life at the Triple-A level, as the No. 4 overall prospect drove in two runs on a sixth-inning double as part of a two-hit day. Torkelson went 2-for-5, crossing the plate twice and striking out once. The double was his fourth extra-base hit with the Mud Hens and his second double. Aug. 26: Can't continue the momentum
Detroit Tigers top prospect Spencer Torkelson struggled one night after clubbing his first Triple-A home run, going 0-for-5 with a walk for Toledo Thursday night. The now-22-year-old infielder has had a hard time getting going with the Mud Hens, alternating between games with a hit and hitless outings through his first nine contests with the club. Gameday »

Aug. 25: Swats first Triple-A home run
After a slow start with Toledo, Spencer Torkelson finally got the burden of his first Triple-A homer off his back, smacking a solo shot in the eighth inning of the Mud Hens' win over St. Paul. His homer provided some insurance for his side, as they squeaked by with a 4-2 victory. Torkelson also laced a single in the contest, giving him his first multihit performance in Triple-A. More »

Aug. 24: Hitless for third game in the past five
Spencer Torkelson's slow start in Triple-A continued on Tuesday, as the 21-year-old first baseman went 0-for-3 in Toledo's win over St. Paul. He reached base once via walk. To be fair to Torkelson, the Mud Hens combined for just three hits on the day, with Eric Haase leading the charge during his rehab assignment. Gameday »

Aug. 22: Laces RBI double
A firm sixth-inning double had to feel good for Spencer Torkelson on Sunday. The shot to deep center snapped his 1-for-17 skid at the plate and drove in a run during Triple-A Toledo's 9-8 victory. Torkelson scored two of those runs. However, he struck out in his three other at-bats. The Tigers' top prospect is off to a slow start through six games with the Mud Hens, slashing .160/.185/.280. He also has yet to walk in 27 plate appearances after recording a 15.2 percent walk rate between High-A and Double-A this year. Gameday »

Aug. 21: Hitless for third game in the past five
Spencer Torkelson couldn't get into the hit column again on Saturday, going 0-for-5 in his fifth Triple-A contest. Torkelson had an opportunity to walk it off in the ninth, but struck out with the bases loaded. Aug. 20: Singles in modest performance
Spencer Torkelson got a base knock in a 1-for-4 performance on Friday, as Triple-A Toledo lost to Indianapolis. The single marks the third hit in Triple-A for Torkelson, as his average through four games with the Mud Hens sits at .188. Gameday »

Aug. 19: Hitless in third Triple-A game
After tripling for his first Triple-A hit on Wednesday, Spencer Torkelson couldn't get it going with the bat on Thursday, going 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in his third game with Toledo. He has two hits through 12 at-bats with the Mud Hens. Gameday »

Aug. 18: Triples and scores three times

Aug. 17: Drives in run in first Triple-A game
Even though he went hitless in his debut, Spencer Torkelson still found a way to be productive at the plate, driving in a run for Triple-A Toledo. Torkelson went 0-for-4 with a strikeout, but after playing well enough to be promoted twice in his first season as a pro, he's sure to figure it out sooner rather than later. Gameday »

Aug. 15: Called up to Triple-A Toledo
Spencer Torkelson is moving on up yet again. The Tigers announced Sunday night that they are promoting their No. 1 prospect to Triple-A. Two of Torkelson's Double-A Erie teammates -- No. 2 prospect Riley Greene and No. 19 Ryan Kreidler -- will join him in Toledo, where he is expected to debut Tuesday.

Torkelson began the season at High-A West Michigan and compiled a 1.009 OPS in 31 games before being called up to Erie. He found his power stroke with the SeaWolves, clubbing 14 homers in 50 games. For the season, Torkelson has a .282/.399/.563 slash line with 19 home runs and 64 RBIs through 284 at-bats. The promotion comes just two days after he went 7-for-7 with three homers during a doubleheader. More >

Aug. 14: Tallies single in Erie's offensive explosion
Double-A Erie exploded for 14 runs on Saturday night, but Spencer Torkelson was only a small part of it, going 1-for-5 with a run scored in the contest. Torkelson is hitting .260 with the SeaWolves and has a hit in five of the last seven games. Gameday »

Aug. 13: Drives in run in hitless game
Spencer Torkelson didn't have the same success as he had on Thursday, but the 21-year-old prospect still managed to drive in a run in an 0-for-4 ballgame Friday. His RBI came on a seventh-inning groundout, his 64th across High-A and Double-A this season. The hitless game snapped his 17-game on-base streak. Gameday »

Aug. 12: Slams three homers and drives in seven in perfect doubleheader
There's perfect days at the plate. Then there's what Spencer Torkelson did on Thursday, as the Tigers' top prospect slammed three home runs and drove in six in a 7-for-7 doubleheader with Double-A Erie. In Game 1, Torkelson went 4-for-4 with a two-run homer, a double and four RBIs, as the SeaWolves erupted for 15 runs. He and Tigers' No. 2 prospect Riley Greene combined for six hits, two homers and eight RBIs.

In the second leg, Torkelson went ahead and one-upped himself, swatting two home runs in a 3-for-3 ballgame. His first blast capped off a back-to-back-to-back effort from Erie to start the scoring. The two homers brought him to 19 homers on the year, with 14 of those coming with the SeaWolves. He also has 35 RBIs since making the move from High-A West Michigan. Aug. 10: Singles in modest day
Spencer Torkelson's on-base streak ran to 15 straight games on Tuesday, as the Arizona State product went 1-for-5 in Double-A Erie's loss to Altoona. Torkelson has reached in every game he's played in since July 24. He is hitting .239 at the Double-A level, but his .865 OPS paints a much prettier picture. Gameday »

Aug. 8: Rebounds with a pair of extra-base hits
MLB Pipeline's new No. 2 overall prospect Spencer Torkelson seemed to snap an early August skid on Sunday afternoon, going 2-for-5 with two runs scored, a double, a home run and two RBIs after entering play with just three hits on the month. Since his mid-June promotion to Double-A Erie, the 21-year-old phenom ranks among the Double-A Northeast leaders in a number of offensive categories including home runs (11, T-4th), slugging (.513, 8th), walks (30, T-2nd) and extra-base hits (20, T-7th). Spencer Torkelson reached twice with a double, a walk and a run scored Sunday, starting August with another solid day at the plate.
