April 15: RHP claimed off waivers from Mariners and assigned to Triple-A Toledo
The Tigers have had an open spot on their 40-man roster since Opening Day. They filled it with a hard-throwing right-handed reliever who has pitched in just 46 2/3 professional innings since being drafted in 2019 due to injuries. The 27-year-old pitched in 12 games for the Mariners last year, allowing six earned runs on 11 hits over 15 2/3 innings with no walks and 11 strikeouts. Opponents hit just .148 off his fastball, which averaged 96.6 miles per hour, but hit four homers off his slider.

Adcock pitched in three games for Triple-A Tacoma this season, allowing two runs on two hits over 2 1/3 innings with three walks and two strikeouts, before the Mariners designated him for assignment last week.

April 14: IF/OF (left hamstring strain) works out on field
The sight of Ibáñez on the field for some early work Sunday morning was a good sign in his progress. He probably won’t be ready when he’s eligible to return from the 10-day IL on Thursday, but will join the team in St. Petersburg next week.

“He’s doing great. He’s on the right track,” manager A.J. Hinch said. “We’re not sure if he’s going to travel with us or not. He’s starting to get into more baseball activities.

“He was told he couldn’t hit today. That’s like taking a blankie away from a little kid.”

April 12: RHP will get multiple opinions on right forearm tightness
Though Gipson-Long is at Comerica Park this weekend, it’s not the kind of call that comes with good news. He’ll visit with team doctors for evaluation after complaining of forearm tightness following his rehab start for Single-A Lakeland last Sunday. He’s already expected to see specialists for further evaluation.

“We’re kind of waiting to solidify the plan to get him multiple opinions on what’s going on with him,” manager A.J. Hinch said. “We brought him here [because] we wanted him to see our doctors and also want to set up some appointments for him to get further evaluated.

“Obviously, on the injured list, he’s always welcome to have a locker here. And he’s frustrated, as he should be. It’s good to be around your teammates, around your coaches, around this place while he waits for the next steps.”

10-DAY/15-DAY INJURED LIST

IF/OF (left hamstring strain)
Expected return: Possibly late April
Ibáñez continues to worked out on the field. He will work out at the Tigers' Spring Training facility when the Tigers go to Minnesota next weekend, but will rejoin the team when they visit the Rays after that. (Last updated: April 15)

RHP (left groin strain, right forearm tightness)
Expected return: TBD
Gipson-Long is being examined by doctors after complaining of forearm tightness following a three-inning rehab start for Single-A Lakeland on April 7. The rehab assignment was for his left groin strain, which led to him being placed on the 15-day injured list ahead of Opening Day. (Last updated: April 12)
