DETROIT -- Tigers fans who need a break from the Michigan winter but who can't make it to Florida for Spring Training will still get a break. Fox Sports Detroit will televise 10 Grapefruit League games in February and March, and WXYT AM 1270 and FM 97.1 will feature 21 broadcasts.
At least 27 of the Tigers' 33 Grapefruit League games will be on radio or television, also available online at MLB.TV or MLB Gameday Audio. The broadcast slate provides a sneak peek of the 2019 Tigers ahead of Opening Day on March 28 and Detroit's home opener April 4, while also giving fans a chance to catch some top prospects before they make the big leagues.
The radio schedule begins with the Tigers' Grapefruit League opener on Feb. 23 against the Blue Jays, and continues to March 24, when the Tigers host the Blue Jays at Joker Marchant Stadium.
Dan Dickerson will join Jim Price on the air for 19 of the broadcasts, with two pinch-hit appearances for promising announcers in the Tigers' farm system. Dan Hasty, voice of the Class A West Michigan Whitecaps, will pair with Price on the call for the Tigers' Feb. 25 split-squad game against the Phillies. Double-A Erie SeaWolves broadcaster Greg Gania, who filled in for Dickerson on a radio broadcast in September, will join Price for the Tigers' March 23 game against the Rays.
Detroit's Spring Training television schedule will feature Matt Shepard in his first full season of play-by-play, joining Hall of Famer Jack Morris and Tigers great Kirk Gibson on the call. They'll make their season debut March 14 when the Tigers host the defending World Series champion Red Sox.
The crew will call five of Fox Sports Detroit's 10 Spring Training telecasts. The other five will be simulcasts from other Fox Sports regional networks, beginning with a Feb. 25 split-squad game against the Cardinals that will be produced by Fox Sports Midwest. FSD will televise nine games over the final two-plus weeks of camp beginning March 11 as the battle for Opening Day roster spots heats up.
