The Detroit Tigers will honor former Tigers outfielder Torii Hunter, with the 2018 Detroit Tigers Willie Horton African American Legacy Award, on June 10 as a part of the club's Negro Leagues Weekend Celebration June 8-10. The Detroit Tigers Willie Horton African American Legacy Award was first presented in 2009, and honors African Americans who have strengthened the legacy of baseball in the African American community and contributed to the rich history of the Detroit Tigers.

About The Friends of Historic Hamtramck Stadium

The Friends of Historic Hamtramck Stadium is a registered Michigan non-profit organization dedicated to restoring and preserving Hamtramck Stadium and honoring the shared history of Negro League baseball in Detroit and amateur baseball in Hamtramck. 

The City of Hamtramck was awarded a National Park Service African American Civil Rights grant earlier in 2017 in recognition of the historic nature of the site.
