Minnesota Twins announce 2013 schedule

Opening Day Slated for April 1 vs. Tigers at Target Field

The Minnesota Twins today announced their preliminary regular season schedule for the 2013 season; the team’s 53rd campaign in Twins Territory.

For the first time since moving to Target Field in 2010, the Twins will open their season at home with a three-game series against the Detroit Tigers (April 1, 3 and 4).

The Twins will then go on the road, playing a three-game series against the Baltimore Orioles (April 5-7) followed by a three-game series against the Kansas City Royals (April 8-10).

Interleague play has been expanded for the 2013 season to include additional games, which will be played starting in April. The team’s 20-game interleague schedule includes visits by the New York Mets (April 12-14), the Miami Marlins (April 22 and 23), the Milwaukee Brewers (May 29 and 30) and the Philadelphia Phillies (June 11-13). The Twins will visit the Atlanta Braves (May 20-22), the Milwaukee Brewers (May 27 and 28), the Washington Nationals (June 7-9) and the Miami Marlins (June 25 and 26) during the course of extended interleague play.

The Twins will also face the Houston Astros, who will join the American League Western Division in 2013, for three home games (August 2-4) and three away games (Sept. 2-4).

Other home schedule highlights include a three-game series against the Boston Red Sox (May 17-19) and a four-game series against the New York Yankees (July 1-4).

The Twins will close out the 2013 season at Target Field with a seven-game homestand against the Detroit Tigers (Sept. 23-25) and the Cleveland Indians (Sept. 26-29).

The Twins will play their American League Central Division rivals the Detroit Tigers 18 times (9 home/9 away), the Kansas City Royals 19 times (10 home/9 away), the Chicago White Sox 19 times (10 home/9 away) and the Cleveland Indians 19 times (10 home/9 away). The Twins will face all American League Central Division teams three series at home and three series on the road.
