Twins prospect Stewart notches first pro win

Right-hander Kohl Stewart, the fourth overall pick of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft, earned his first professional victory on Friday night. He threw a career-high six innings as Class A Cedar Rapids earned a 6-1 win over Clinton.

Stewart, the Twins' No. 4 prospect and No. 38 overall, according to, allowed one unearned run and one hit. He struck out six batters and walked one.

Through four starts this season, Stewart has a 3.15 ERA and a 0.75 WHIP. The 19-year old has struck out 13 batters and walked four in 20 innings.

Stewart was a two-sport star in high school and was committed to play quarterback and pitch for Texas A&M before the Twins drafted him last June. Though he is still learning some of the nuances of pitching, Stweart stands out for his hard fastball, which regularly reaches the mid-90s, and his sharp slider.
