Pelfrey set for rehab assignment on Monday

MINNEAPOLIS -- Twins right-hander Mike Pelfrey is already on the mend.

The starter missed his last turn on Sunday and was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a sore back.

According to general manager Terry Ryan, Pelfrey will go on a rehab assignment on Monday with Class A Cedar Rapids.

"We've got a nice plan for him," manager Ron Gardenhire said. "He's going to definitely pitch somewhere and eventually get activated and make his start, probably by like next Saturday."

Pelfrey has noted multiple times that he isn't incredibly patient when it comes to recovering from injuries -- in particular, his Tommy John surgery over a year ago while with the Mets.

Pelfrey is 3-6 this season with a 6.11 ERA in 70 2/3 innings. He has turned in only one seven-inning outing so far, but was progressing and starting to find some consistency on the mound prior to heading to the DL.
