Twins host third annual Diversity Week

The Minnesota Twins organization will be hosting their third annual Diversity Week, August 18th through the 25th presented by Treasure Island Resort & Casino and Prairie Island Indian Community. Twins players, wives and front office staff will give back to the community as a part of the Twins ongoing commitment to serve Twins Territory.

Saturday, August 18 (11:00 am - 9:00 pm): INDIAFEST 2018
MINNESOTA STATE CAPITOL GROUNDS
This year will mark the Twins seventh consecutive year joining this annual event celebrating the rich heritage, traditions, diversity and culture of India. Attendees who visit the Twins booth will have the opportunity to win prizes after testing their skills with baseball interactives.
Sunday, August 19 (11:10 am - end of 2nd inning): TWINS WIVES BOOK COLLECTION
TARGET FIELD
Fans are asked to bring a new or gently-used children's book to Target Field for the Twins Wives book collection inside Gate 34. Fans not attending the game can drop off donated books at the table located just outside Gate 34 on Target Field Plaza. In return, each fan donating a book will receive a surprise Twins item. Catcher Jason Castro and his wife Maris, will match each book donated. All books will be distributed by Reading Partners to children in need.
Monday, August 20 (12:00 pm - 2:00 pm): TASTE OF DIVERSITY LUNCHEON
INTERNAL EVENT
The Twins Human Resources and Diversity & Inclusion departments have paired up to host the annual Taste of Diversity Luncheon. Target Field employees are encouraged to bring a dish from their culture or a family favorite to the afternoon potluck. Delaware North will also take part in the event.
Tuesday, August 21 (10:00 am): READING IS POWERFUL SUMMER TOUR
VARIOUS SCHOOLS
Each spring the Minnesota Twins front office staff travel to fourth and fifth grade classrooms to discuss the importance of reading with kids. Highlighting books on Jackie Robinson and Roberto Clemente, kids will learn the importance of overcoming barriers. Over the past five years, more than 10,000 kids have participated in the Reading Is Powerful Program. Additionally, the Minnesota Twins are excited to invite participants of the program to visit Target Field for an interactive learning tour.
Wednesday, August 22 (5:15 pm - 9:30 pm): DIVERSITY CELEBRATION

This annual Twins event brings the community together to share ideas about inclusion and collaboration. Among the guest speakers, Susan Bass Roberts, Vice President and Executive Director, Pohlad Family Foundation will host a Commissioner Conversation with Robert D. Manfred Jr., Commissioner of Major League Baseball.
Thursday, August 23 (7:10 pm): MINNESOTA TWINS DIVERSITY DAY

Prairie Island Indian Community presents Diversity Day at Target Field. The day features a pregame on-field parade, multicultural performances, diverse music, and more before the Twins take on the Oakland Athletics. The first 10,000 fans through the gates will receive a Diversity Day T-shirt (Adult M/XL) courtesy of Treasure Island Resort & Casino.
Friday, August 24 (7:10 pm): TWINS WIVES BACKPACK DELIVERY
PRODEO ACADEMY
The Twins Wives Organization will deliver 200 backpacks filled with school supplies to local students from Prodeo Academy. Prodeo Academy is a network of free, public charter schools aimed at providing families in the Twin Cities metro area with a high-quality education option. Prodeo Academy provides individualized instruction for every child, and ensures that their scholars are engaged and excited about the learning process.
Saturday, August 25 (9:00 am - 11:30 am): TWINS YOUTH BASEBALL CLINIC
BILL PETERSON FIELD (122 Marshall Ave., St. Paul)
The clinic program serves as a way for PlayBall! Minnesota to promote baseball and softball to boys and girls throughout the region. Baseball is loved throughout Twins Territory, and this program serves as a way for the Twins to share this passion with those who love the game as we do. No advanced registration is required to participate, but participants must complete a waiver form before they will be allowed to participate.
