Twins seek pitching, possibly a catcher at Meetings

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Baseball's annual Winter Meetings get underway on Monday, and you can count on twinsbaseball.com to keep you up to date on all Twins news throughout the week.

General managers, managers, front-office staff, agents and the media have all descended upon the Walt Disney World Swan & Dolphin Resort for the Winter Meetings, which run through Thursday. It's sure to be a busy week for all involved, as the annual event features various industry meetings and luncheons, as well as Thursday's Rule 5 Draft.

But, as most fans surely know, it's also a place for general managers to meet with each other and with agents regarding trades and free-agent signings.

The Twins already made two additions to their rotation in the week before the Winter Meetings, officially signing Ricky Nolasco and Phil Hughes to multiyear deals. But the club is on the lookout for more pitching, after its starters finished with the highest ERA in baseball this past season. The Twins could also be looking for a catcher now that Joe Mauer made the switch to first base after his season-ending concussion.

Minnesota also figures to be an active player in the Rule 5 Draft on Thursday, and has the No. 5 pick. Last year, the Twins selected right-handed reliever Ryan Pressly from the Red Sox with the No. 4 pick and he went on to have a solid rookie season.

There are also plenty of questions that need to be resolved about a Twins team that has lost 95-plus games each of the last three seasons.
