Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN -- The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have selected the contract of catcher Juan Graterol from Triple-A Rochester. He is set to join the team tonight in Oakland and will wear uniform number 66.
Graterol, 29, was signed by the Twins as a minor league free agent on June 28 after he was released by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on June 24. He appeared in 24 games at Triple-A Salt Lake and one game with the Angels before joining Rochester. While with the Red Wings, Graterol appeared in 34 games, all at catcher, hitting .284 (33-for-116) with six doubles and 10 RBI.
A native of Maracay, Venezuela, Graterol appeared in 58 major league games with the Angels from 2016-2018 hitting .222 (22-for-99) with six doubles and 13 RBI. He was originally signed by the Kansas City Royals as a minor league free agent in 2005.
To make room for Graterol on the 40-man roster, the Twins have transferred right-handed pitcher Ervin Santana to the 60-day disabled list.
