Twins to make roster additions

The Minnesota Twins announced today that they will recall infielder Eduardo Escobar, outfielder Chris Parmelee, left-handed pitcher Scott Diamond and right-handed pitchers Michael Tonkin and Cole De Vries from Triple-A Rochester. Additionally, the Twins have selected the contracts of catcher Eric Fryer and right-handed pitcher Shairon Martis from Rochester. To make room on the Twins 40-man roster right-handed pitcher Samuel Deduno and outfielder Wilkin Ramirez have been transferred from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day DL.  

Escobar began the season with the Twins and appeared in 55 games, hitting .214 (28-for-131) with two doubles, two triples, three home runs and nine RBI. Since being optioned to Rochester in July, Escobar appeared in 43 regular season games, hitting .307 (51-for-166) with 16 doubles, two triples, four home runs and 27 RBI.

Parmelee began the season with the Twins and appeared in 83 games, hitting .223 (54-for-242) with 12 doubles, eight home runs and 20 RBI. Since being optioned to Rochester in July, Parmelee appeared in 45 regular season games, hitting .231 (40-for-173) with 13 doubles, one triple, three home runs and 22 RBI.

Diamond made 20 starts for the Twins this season, going 5-10 with a 5.52 ERA (107.2 IP, 66 ER), with 31 walks and 45 strikeouts. In six regular season starts for the Red Wings, he went 4-0 with a 2.41 ERA (41.0 IP, 11 ER) with nine walks and 19 strikeouts.

Tonkin appeared in two games for the Twins this season, pitching 2.1 scoreless innings of relief (allowing three unearned runs) with one walk and two strikeouts. Tonkin appeared in 52 regular season games between Rochester and Double-A New Britain, recording 21 saves, while posting a 3.47 ERA (57.0 IP, 22 ER), with 16 walks and 66 strikeouts.
De Vries made a combined 16 starts between four stops in the minors this season, going 4-6 with a 4.96 ERA (78.0 IP, 43 ER), 15 walks and 45 strikeouts. He has a career record of 5-5, 4.11 ERA (87.2 IP, 40 ER) with 18 walks and 58 strikeouts with the Twins.  

Fryer, who will wear uniform number 54, appeared in 65 games for the Red Wings this season and hit .215 (43-for-200), with 11 doubles, two triples, five home runs and 31 RBI. The Ohio native appeared in six games with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2012.

Martis, who will wear uniform number 64, appeared in 42 games (3 starts) for the Red Wings, he went 2-4 with a 4.26 ERA (80.1 IP, 38 ER), with 31 walks, 65 strikeouts and 11 saves. He last pitched in the majors with Washington in 2008 and 2009.
