TWINS ACQUIRE ALEJANDRO HIDALGO FROM ANGELS IN EXCHANGE FOR GIO URSHELA

MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL, MN – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have acquired right-handed pitcher Alejandro Hidalgo from the Los Angeles Angels, in exchange for infielder Gio Urshela.

Hidalgo, 19, spent the 2022 season with Low-A Inland Empire in the California League, going 0-3 with a 4.62 ERA (39.0 IP, 20 ER), 19 walks, 58 strikeouts, a .225 opponent batting average, a 1.36 WHIP and a 13.4 strikeouts-per-9.0-innings pitched ratio in 10 starts for the 66ers. The 6-foot-1, 160-pound righty is currently ranked as the 22nd-best prospect in the Angels organization, per MLB.com. The Maracay, Venezuela native was originally signed by the Angels as an international free agent on July 2, 2019, and has gone 3-5 with a 4.64 ERA (66.0 IP, 34 ER), 28 walks, 89 strikeouts, a .232 opponent batting average, a 1.33 WHIP and a 12.1 strikeouts-per-9.0-innings pitched ratio in 17 career minor league games (16 starts).

Urshela, 31, played in 144 games for the Twins last season, hitting .285 (143-for-501) with 27 doubles, three triples, 13 home runs, 64 RBI and 61 runs scored, with a .767 OPS.
