MINNEAPOLIS-ST. PAUL, MN – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have claimed right-handed pitcher Trevor Megill from the Chicago Cubs.

Megill, 27, appeared in 28 games for the Cubs last season, going 1-2 with an 8.37 ERA (23.2 IP, 22 ER), eight walks and 30 strikeouts. He made his major league debut on April 26 and 18 of his 28 appearances for the Cubs were scoreless. The 6-foot-8, 250-pound pitcher posted a 3.75 strikeout-to-walk ratio, sixth best among National League rookie pitchers (minimum 20.0 innings pitched), and his 11.41 strikeouts-per-nine innings rate was ninth under those same parameters.

The Long Beach, California native was originally drafted by the San Diego Padres in the seventh round of the 2015 First-Year Player Draft out of Loyola Marymount University. Over five seasons in the minor leagues with San Diego and Chicago-NL, he has gone 11-3 with a 3.53 ERA (171.0 IP, 67 ER), 56 walks and 236 strikeouts in 114 games, all in relief.

To make room for Megill on the 40-man roster, the Twins have outrighted outfielder Jake Cave to Triple-A St. Paul.
