The Astros' No. 6 prospect extended his season-opening scoreless innings streak to 14 1/3 on Thursday, tossing five dominant frames against a loaded Carolina offense. He gave up two hits, struck out seven and induced six ground-ball outs as Buies Creek routed the Mudcats, 14-1.
The two hits permitted by Perez came with two outs in the bottom of the second. After that, the 19-year-old righty retired the final 10 batters he faced en route to facing two over the minimum.

Perez has given up just three hits across his three outings, compiling 14 strikeouts and three walks in 14 1/3 frames. He's earned the win in both of his starts and worked four hitless innings out of the bullpen to notch the save in his other appearance. Perez put himself on the map last year with his impressive full-season debut at Class A Quad Cities, where he was the only 18-year-old to make 10 starts in the Midwest League. A third baseman early in his career before shifting to the mound and signing for $1 million in 2014, Perez appeared in 15 games overall, posting a 2.84 ERA with 75 strikeouts and one home run allowed in 66 2/3 innings.

• No. 55 overall prospectErick Fedde (Nationals' No. 2) allowed an earned run for the first time this season with two outs in the fourth inning, snapping a 14 2/3-inning streak for the 24-year-old right-hander. He went on to complete seven innings, allowing five hits with three walks and a season-high eight strikeouts as well as eight ground-ball outs. Opposing hitters are batting just .185 against Fedde, who has posted a 0.50 ERA in 18 innings to begin his season.

• Royals No. 11 prospect A.J. Puckett fired seven scoreless frames with eight strikeouts, both career highs for the 2016 second-rounder, as Class A Wilmington shut out Winston-Salem, 1-0. The 21-year-old righty scattered three hits and walked one in the outing while finding the zone with 58 of his 82 offerings. He's 2-1 with 1.59 ERA through three starts for the Blue Rocks.
• Phillies No. 12 prospect Nick Pivetta struck out 11 over six innings to record his third win in as many starts for Triple-A Lehigh Valley. He allowed one earned run on four hits and two walks in the outing, throwing 63 of his 90 pitches for strikes, and eight of his strikeouts were of the swinging variety. Overall, he sports a 0.95 ERA through 19 innings.

• Padres No. 12 prospect Dinelson Lamet struck out a career-high 13 batters for Triple-A El Paso, a new Chihuahuas franchise record. He ultimately worked 5 1/3 frames, allowing one earned run on three hits and three walks, but he didn't factor in the decision. Lamet, 24, has opened his season by posting a 0.69 ERA with 19 strikeouts in 13 innings.

• Rockies No. 16 prospect Yency Almonte out-dueled Fedde en route to his first win of the season for Hartford. The 22-year-old tossed 100 pitches (72 strikes) over seven scoreless frames, allowing four hits and striking out 10. Almonte lowered his ERA to 1.53 with the performance, and he's now fanned 21 batters in 17 2/3 innings across three starts while holding opposing hitters to a .171 clip.

• Padres No. 19 prospect Logan Allen received a no-decision despite tossing five hitless innings for Class A Fort Wayne. The 19-year-old lefty struck out seven and walked three but departed the game after 80 pitches (48 strikes). It marked the second straight five-inning outing for Allen, who sports a 2.08 ERA through three starts.
• D-backs No. 21 prospect Marcus Wilson stayed red hot out of the leadoff spot for Class A Kane County by going 3-for-5 with his fifth home run in 13 games. It marked the fourth multi-hit performance in six games for the 20-year-old outfielder, who also tallied a double as well as three RBIs in the contest. Overall, he's slashing .392/.483/.804 and pacing the Midwest League in OPS (1.287), hits (20), total bases (41), runs (15) and RBIs (17).
