BALTIMORE -- The Orioles, ready to put a dramatic, exhausting road trip with stops in New York and Boston behind them, did just that Friday night. With six scoreless innings from reliever Gabriel Ynoa and a Chris Davis homer, the O's topped the White Sox, 4-2, at Camden Yards.
The victory puts the O's just a half-game behind the American League East-leading Yankees.
"Whenever the opportunities come, I just try to take advantage of those opportunities," said Ynoa, who stepped in after Wade Miley was struck by two straight line drives. "That's why I'm hoping for more opportunities, to show what I can do."

Facing former teammate Miguel Gonzalez, Baltimore took a lead on Jonathan Schoop's bases-loaded hit-by-pitch and Davis' fourth homer of the season -- a solo shot in the third -- pushed the lead to 2-0. Davis, who went 3-for-3, saw his blast travel 427 feet, per Statcast™. Gonzalez went 6 2/3 innings, turning in a quality start, but took the loss as Chicago stranded 10 baserunners.
"It was a bittersweet situation," Gonzalez said of pitching against his former club. "Coming back to Camden Yards, the fans were happy to see me. Just went out there and had fun."

Ynoa, who came on with two outs in the first, saved the O's bullpen and gave Baltimore's offense a chance to work. In the eighth, Joey Rickard doubled in a run and Mark Trumbo scored on an error.
The Sox scored their first run on Avisail Garcia's RBI groundout in the eighth, then got an RBI fielder's choice from Melky Cabrera in the ninth.
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Ynoa delivers: Recalled before Thursday's game to give the O's some pitching depth, Ynoa shined in his season debut. The right-hander, acquired from the Mets for cash considerations this winter, threw a career-high six innings in his fourth career big league start. The 23-year-old Ynoa struck out five and scattered six hits.

"He pumped the zone with strikes," White Sox manager Rick Renteria said. "His ball had some life. He's got a good arm. He threw a lot of strikes. He was working both sides. He did what he needed to do. He picked them up a little bit. I know they've been a little strapped for pitching."
Sox squander chances: Chicago didn't have a hit (0-for-8) with runners in scoring position and weren't able to capitalize on Miley's short stay. The Sox, who didn't score a run that inning, had the bases loaded off reliever Darren O'Day in the eighth, but managed just one run.
