GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Reynaldo Lopez matched Johnny Cueto pitch for pitch during the Giants' 3-2 victory over the White Sox on Monday afternoon at Camelback Ranch.
Lopez stands as Chicago's No. 4 prospect and the No. 46 prospect in all of baseball, per MLBPipeline.com, with 11 games and 44 innings pitched at the Major League level. Cueto stands as one of the true aces in Major League Baseball. So it was a pretty good day for the White Sox rebuild, even in the scope of Cactus League competition.
• Lopez's adjustments pay off
In his six scoreless innings, Lopez yielded two hits and struck out four. Cueto gave up one hit and one run in five innings, striking out three.

Asked whether he's ready for the regular season, Cueto said, "I think I'm getting closer and closer. As I pitch more, I think I'm getting ready."
• No Classic, no problem for Cueto
As for Lopez, who is from the same hometown of San Pedro de Macoris in the Dominican Republic as Cueto, it was a challenge to match a hurler he admires.

"It was a surprise and a challenge at the same time, because I didn't know he was the one who would pitch for them," Lopez said through interpreter Billy Russo. "But when the guys told me, I was like, 'Oh, this is going to be a challenge.'
"I said to myself, 'I know he's good, but I can be good too.' I embraced the challenge and I said, 'I'm going to be good too,' and that was what happened."
The White Sox scored in the fourth on Peter Bourjos' triple and Leury Garcia's sacrifice fly. They added another run in the sixth on Jose Abreu's sacrifice fly.

Ryder Jones, San Francisco's 30th-ranked prospect, gave the Giants a come-from-behind victory with a three-run blast off reliever Tommy Kahnle with two outs in the eighth.
Giants Up Next: Left-hander Madison Bumgarner will make his sixth Cactus League start -- second against the Padres -- in a 1:05 p.m. PT encounter on Tuesday in an exclusive webcast on sfgiants.com. Since San Diego is a National League West rival, there was talk of Bumgarner getting his work in by appearing in a Minor League exhibition. He might curtail his game activity by a few innings to prevent him from being overexposed to the Padres.
