Swinging hot bat, A. Garcia gets game off vs. O's

BALTIMORE -- Right fielder Avisail Garcia got the day off Friday to get some rest, but not because of an injury, White Sox manager Robin Ventura confirmed prior to the game against the Orioles.

Garcia was acquired from the Tigers in the three-team Jake Peavy Trade Deadline deal. He was called up Aug. 9, from Triple-A Charlotte, after batting .370 with a homer and nine RBIs over eight games.

"He's been playing every day since he's got here," Ventura said. "I think he's a little tired. We'll give him the day [off] today and get him back in there tomorrow."

Garcia has been one of the White Sox hottest hitters, batting .333 with two homers and 13 RBIs in 26 games.

"He's a mature kid," Ventura said. "He's just a combination of power and speed. He's continuing to get better with plate discipline and things like that. He's a rare combination of a lot of different things."
