CHICAGO -- Here’s a look at the top 10 moments of the 2019 White Sox season, a campaign in which a number of the young players at the core of their rebuild took a major step forward.

1. Anderson flips for a walk-off
April 26 vs. Tigers
Tim Anderson’s most emphatic bat flip came after making first-pitch contact against Detroit reliever Joe Jiménez, launching a walk-off blast for a 12-11 White Sox victory. Anderson, the eventual American League batting champion, threw the bat like a javelin toward the White Sox dugout and his home run completed White Sox comebacks from 8-1 and 10-4 deficits.

2. Giolito, shutout No. 2
Aug. 21 vs. Twins
Lucas Giolito looked dominant in his shutout of the Astros on May 22, but the All-Star right-hander possibly went one better against the Twins at Target Field. Giolito shut down the Bomba squad on a double and two singles, striking out 12 and not issuing a walk during his 115-pitch shutout.

3. Jiménez’s first (two) of many home runs
April 12 vs. Yankees
With the wind blowing out to left field at 14 mph, Eloy Jiménez launched his first two career home runs at Yankee Stadium. But Jiménez didn’t need any help from the weather on his blast to center off of Jonathan Holder leading off the fifth and his follow-up drive to center off of Chad Green in the seventh. The White Sox claimed a rain-shortened, 9-6 victory.

4. White Sox turn triple play
May 22 vs. Houston
The Astros had runners on first and second and nobody out in the third inning of a game they trailed, 1-0, when Jake Marisnick grounded into a triple play. Marisnick has good speed, but his grounder off of a 1-1 pitch from Ivan Nova took Yoán Moncada right to the third-base bag, with Moncada then firing to second baseman Yolmer Sánchez, and Sánchez’s return throw to José Abreu barely beating Marisnick for the third out of the play.

5. Giolito shuts out Astros
May 23 vs. Houston
When asked for the best moments of his breakout 2019 campaign, Giolito pointed to the Twins’ shutout and this zip job of the AL champs as the two. Giolito struck out nine, walked one and yielded four singles over 107 pitches, throwing 82 for strikes. Giolito began pounding his glove in celebration as soon as Yuli Gurriel popped out to Moncada for the final out of the shutout.

6. Sánchez does it with his bat
May 28 vs. Royals
Sánchez’s best work came defensively at second, where he was awarded his first Rawlings Gold Glove for the 2019 season. But in this instance against the Royals, Sánchez’s walk-off single against Kevin McCarthy brought home James McCann with the game-winner in a 2-1 victory. It was the completion of a suspended game from the day before, with Sánchez becoming the recipient of a celebratory dousing instead of the one doing it.

7. Delmonico blasts Red Sox
May 2 vs. Red Sox
Nicky Delmonico was a popular figure with the White Sox and added to his legacy via this three-run walk-off home run against Ryan Brasier to spell a 6-4 win. The Red Sox held a 4-3 lead, but Delmonico followed José Rondón reaching via a Rafael Devers error and Yonder Alonso’s single with his first home run, clearing the center-field fence.

8. Alonso walks off Orioles
May 1 (Game 2) vs. Orioles
Alonso helped the White Sox avoid being swept in a doubleheader at home by the Orioles with a two-run single to left off of Miguel Castro. Alonso’s two-out drive scored Leury García and Adam Engel, erasing a 6-5 deficit for a 7-6 win.

9. Abreu walks off Tigers
July 3 (Game 2) vs. Tigers
The White Sox supplied their own fireworks the day before the Fourth of July, sweeping a home doubleheader from the Tigers. Abreu delivered the three-run walk-off blast in the bottom of the 12th after Moncada tied the game with a home run off Detroit closer Shane Greene in the 10th, fueling a 9-6 victory.

10. Jiménez debuts with an RBI
March 28 vs. Kansas City
For a man who hit 31 home runs and many of the prodigious variety, Jiménez’s first career RBI was a little less dramatic. The rookie left fielder was hit by a Jake Diekman pitch on the left foot with the bases loaded on Opening Day to force home a run. Jiménez also scored his first career run during a three-run ninth in a 5-3 loss.
