A scheduled six-game road trip through Boston and Cleveland came to a premature end Wednesday, with the White Sox evening contest against the Indians at Progressive Field being postponed due to the field conditions and the weather.

The White Sox had this past Friday’s game in Boston postponed due to inclement weather, but it was made up as part of two seven-inning games on Sunday at Fenway Park. Tony La Russa’s crew won both of those games. An April 10 home contest against the Royals also was postponed.

Wednesday’s cancellation will be made up as a straight doubleheader on Monday, May 31, starting at 2:05 p.m. CT. Both games of the traditional doubleheader will be seven-inning contests.

No official announcement was made concerning the White Sox rotation, with Texas coming to Chicago for night games Friday and Saturday and a day game Sunday after an off-day on Thursday. If the White Sox choose to stay in rotation, Dylan Cease would start Friday night at Guaranteed Rate Field, with Dallas Keuchel pitching Saturday and Lucas Giolito on Sunday.

Following an 8-5 victory on Tuesday behind Carlos Rodón, the White Sox are 9-9. They also have been at .500 this season at 1-1, 3-3, 4-4, 5-5, 6-6 and 8-8, but they have yet to surpass the break-even mark.

"We haven't had too many blowouts,” La Russa said. “So I really do believe that every time our young relievers pitch with something on the line, it's growth.

“It will pay off big dividends when we get to the second half of the season. We're actually telling them how much pressure there is because it's not like, 'Hey whatever happens, happens.' I think they have to recognize games mean something. It's been good, and even when it may have been not a good result, we're really pleased with what we see.”

Shortstop Tim Anderson will enter the Rangers series at 10-for-23 with two home runs and six runs scored in the five games since coming off the injured list with a left hamstring strain. José Abreu broke free from his early-season offensive doldrums with three RBIs and three hits, including two home runs, on Tuesday.

“He's such a popular, popular person and player that when he does good. Everybody in that dugout knows how important it is to him and they get happy,” La Russa said. “There's a lot of happiness because of the big fella.”
