White Sox purchase contract of Maikel Cleto from Class AAA Charlotte

Prior to tonight's game vs. Texas, the Chicago White Sox purchased the contract of right-handed pitcher Maikel Cleto from Class AAA Charlotte. Cleto, 25, takes the roster spot of right-hander Taylor Thompson, who was optioned to Charlotte following yesterday's game vs. Minnesota.

The 6-foot-3 and 250-pound Cleto went 3-0 with a 5.91 ERA (23 ER/35.0 IP) and 50 strikeouts in 22 relief appearances with the Knights this season. He threw 7.2 scoreless IP over his final five outings, allowing just two hits with one walk and 13 strikeouts.

Cleto made the White Sox Opening Day roster after being claimed off waivers from Kansas City on February 26, going 0-0 with a 5.14 ERA (8 ER/14.2 IP) in 13 relief appearances before being designated for assignment on May 10.
