Cody Reed crossed a pair of accomplishments off his career bucket list on Thursday night with a historic performance for Class A Kane County.
The D-backs' No. 19 prospect fired a complete-game three-hitter with nine strikeouts and one walk in a 1-0 win over Quad Cities. The nine-inning shutout was the first of Reed's career and the first by a Cougars pitcher since Aug. 31, 2004. It also marked the 20-year-old lefty's second straight scoreless outing after he completed a then-season-high eight frames in his previous turn.
"It was really the same game plan [as my last start]," Reed told MiLB.com. "Go out there, throw strikes, and locate in and out. Make sure my breaking ball is getting over for strikes, make sure my changeup is getting over for strikes."

Reed threw a career-high 108 pitches (73 strikes) in the performance, including seven each to the final two batters he faced during a 16-pitch ninth inning. He yielded singles in the second, fifth and seventh innings -- as well as a fifth-inning walk -- but each time he stranded the runner at first base.
"It's a heck of a feeling to go out there and do something like that," Reed said.
Reed (3-1) has been one of the better pitchers in the Midwest League this season, as he ranks second in ERA (1.08), fourth in WHIP (0.82) and fifth in strikeouts (47). Opposing hitters, meanwhile, are batting just .169 with zero home runs against him in 41 2/3 innings.

• No. 20 overall prospectClint Frazier (Yankees' No. 1) capped a 3-for-6, three-extra-base-hit performance for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre with a walk-off double in the bottom of the 11th inning. The 22-year-old outfielder hit two doubles in the contest as well as his sixth home run, a sixth-inning solo shot. With multiple hits in three of his past four games for the RailRiders, Frazier is batting .261/.348/.493 on the season.

• No. 45 overall prospectFranklin Barreto (A's No. 1) staked Triple-A Nashville to an early lead with a three-run homer before finishing 3-for-6 with a season-high five RBIs. The 21-year-old shortstop is putting up big numbers in the Pacific Coast League, with a .320 average, an .879 OPS, six home runs and 27 RBIs through 36 games. A's No. 4 prospect Matt Chapman (No. 91 overall) went deep for a third straight game in a three-hit effort (3-for-4) for the Sounds. He's homered eight times in just 24 games this season.

• Red Sox No. 3 prospect Sam Travis set a career high with five hits, going 5-for-6 with two doubles and three RBIs for Triple-A Pawtucket. It was the fourth straight multi-hit game for the 23-year-old first baseman, who's hit .579 (11-for-19) during that stretch to raise his average from .245 to .299.

• Starting opposite Cody Reed for Class A Quad Cities, No. 76 overall prospect Forrest Whitley (Astros' No. 5) didn't allow a hit for the first four innings before finishing with five one-hit frames. The 19-year-old lefty issued one walk and struck out six, giving him at least six punchouts in each of his five starts this season. He's pitched to a 3.60 ERA in that span, with 31 strikeouts and four walks in 20 innings.
• Padres No. 8 prospect Eric Lauer allowed one unearned run on four hits in seven innings to record his first win of 2017 (in his seventh start) for Class A Advanced Lake Elsinore. The left-hander struck out nine to match his season high, and for the first time this season he did not issue a walk, ultimately throwing 67 of 92 pitches for strikes. Lauer, 21, lowered his California League-leading ERA to 1.56 with the performance.
• Braves No. 11 prospect Touki Toussaint was a tough-luck loser for Class A Advanced Florida despite giving up one earned run on four hits. The 20-year-old right-hander issued one walk and matched his season high in strikeouts with eight, giving him a 50-to-12 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 40 1/3 innings (eight starts) this season.
• Phillies No. 13 prospect Rhys Hoskins drove in five runs with a pair of homers as Triple-A Lehigh Valley fell to Rochester, 10-8, ending their 12-game winning streak. The 24-year-old first baseman's multi-homer performance was his second of the season and gives him three in his past two games. Hoskins is tied for Minor League lead with 12 homers, with a .343/.430/.709 slash line through 40 games.

• Mets No. 14 prospect Merandy Gonzalez was sharp in a no-decision for Class A Columbia, tossing seven scoreless frames of four-hit ball with one walk and four strikeouts. It was the fifth scoreless start in seven turns for the 21-year-old right-hander, who did not allow a run over his first 28 1/3 innings (four starts) to begin the season. Overall, Gonzalez ranks second in the South Atlantic League in WHIP (0.77) and fourth in ERA (1.59).
• Blue Jays No. 17 prospect Patrick Murphy carried a no-hit bid into the sixth inning en route to his third win for Class A Lansing. Murphy permitted his first hit with one out in the fifth before finishing with one earned run on three hits in seven innings. He tallied five strikeouts and 10 ground-ball outs in the performance, which saw the right-hander throw 55 of his 89 pitches for strikes.
• D-backs No. 30 prospectChristian Walker connected on a pair of home runs, hitting a three-run homer in the second inning and then adding a solo shot in the sixth, as he extended his hitting streak to six games for Triple-A Reno. Walker's four RBIs give him a Minor League-leading 46 for the season, and he now owns a share of first in the home run department as well with 12.
