Stanton skips rehab game with knee tightness

BALTIMORE -- was scratched from what would have been his second Minor League rehabilitation game with Class A Advanced Tampa on Tuesday due to tightness in his left knee.

Stanton went 1-for-3 with a home run on Monday in his first contest with the Tarpons. Speaking after the club's 11-4 victory over the Orioles in Baltimore, Yankees manager Aaron Boone said that Stanton was hit by a pitch during a live batting-practice session last Friday.

"He did all his pregame work, but we held him out as a precaution just because that spot had tightened up," Boone said. "I don't think it's a big deal. I expect him to play [Wednesday with Tampa]. All his pregame work was good. I think we just thought, better to be cautious with it and give it a day."

Boone said there were no tests scheduled for Stanton, who was originally slated to serve as the designated hitter on Tuesday, then return to right field on Wednesday.

Stanton has not played in a big league game since March 31, first because of a left biceps strain and more recently due to a left shoulder strain. He indicated after Monday's game that there was no definitive timetable for his return, saying, "When I'm ready, I'm going to go up there."

Boone said it is unlikely that Stanton would return during this weekend's series against the Royals in Kansas City, adding that it is possible Stanton could see time with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre before making it back to the Majors.
