Boone: Severino set to get Opening Day nod

The Yankees expect to be their Opening Day starter, manager Aaron Boone said Wednesday.
That means Severino enters Spring Training with the edge over , whom the Yankees traded for in November to pair with Severino at the top of their starting rotation.

The Bronx Bombers will open the 2019 regular season on March 28, when they face the Orioles at Yankee Stadium at 1:05 p.m. ET.
If Severino is, in fact, on the mound, it will be his second consecutive Opening Day start for New York after he got the first of his career last year in Toronto.

The 24-year-old right-hander went 19-8 with a 3.39 ERA and 220 strikeouts in his 32 starts last season, although he had an up-and-down second half and postseason.
Paxton, who would presumably be next in line for the Opening Day start should the Yankees' plans change, went 11-6 with a 3.76 ERA and 208 strikeouts in 28 starts for the Mariners.
