De Paula to showcase skills at Futures Game

NEW YORK -- Rafael De Paula has pitched very well since joining the Yankees' organization in 2012. For his efforts, he'll be representing the ballclub in the Sirius XM All-Star Futures Game on July 14.

De Paula, signed as a non-drafted free agent on Nov. 18, 2010, has compiled a 14-4 record over 28 games at three different levels of the organization, posting a 2.13 ERA with 187 strikeouts in 131 innings. The 22-year-old began the season at Class A Charleston, but he was promoted to Class A-Advanced Tampa on June 17.

The right-hander, who is ranked as the organization's No. 19 prospect by MLB.com, will serve as a pitcher for the World Team. He's one of seven players from American League East organizations who will be playing in the game.

The 15th annual Sirius XM All-Star Futures Game takes place at 2 p.m. ET on All-Star Sunday at Citi Field in New York and can be seen live on MLB.com, ESPN2 and ESPN2 HD and followed live on MLB.com's Gameday. In addition, XM Radio will broadcast play-by-play coverage of the event live on MLB Network Radio XM 89. MLB.com will also provide complete coverage before, during and after the game. Fans can stay updated by following @MLBFutures on Twitter and can send/receive tweets to/from the U.S. and World Team dugouts during the game by tagging tweets with the hashtags #USDugout and #WorldDugout.

Also, for the first time, fans determined the final player on the U.S. and World Team rosters by casting their votes in the All-Star Sunday Futures Finalists ballot. There were five candidates for each team, and voting ended Sunday.

Outfielder Tyler Austin, the Yankees' No. 3 prospect, was one of five Futures Finalists for the U.S. team. Mets prospect Brandon Nimmo won the balloting to join the U.S. Team, while Astros prospect Carlos Correa landed the final spot on the World Team.

Austin is ranked No. 67 on MLB.com's Top 100 prospect list. The Yankees selected him in the 13th round of the 2010 First-Year Player Draft and he had a breakout season last year, reaching Double-A Trenton. Austin was slated to go to last year's Futures Game, but a concussion kept him out of the event.

Austin, 21, is hitting .262 at Trenton with a .351 on-base percentage.
