Yankees sign left-handed pitcher Jose De Paula

The New York Yankees today announced they have signed left-handed pitcher Jose De Paula to a one-year Major League contract for the 2015 season.

De Paula, 26, went 4-3 with a 4.21 ERA (51.1IP, 24ER) in 16 appearances (10 starts) for Triple-A Fresno in 2014, striking out 41 batters. Following the season, he pitched for Gigantes del Cibao of the Dominican Baseball League. The Villa Mella, D.R., native joined the San Francisco organization after being claimed off waivers from San Diego on November 27, 2013.

Originally signed by San Diego as a non-drafted free agent on November 1, 2006, De Paula spent his first seven professional seasons in the Padres organization (2007-13). In 105 career minor league appearances (89 starts), he is 33-27 with one save and a 3.86 ERA (452.1IP, 194ER), recording 398K and 116BB. De Paula surrendered a total of two home runs in his first three professional seasons (129.0IP) and has allowed only 21 homers in his career (0.42 HR/9.0IP).
