His first name, Thairo, pronounced TYE-row, is family derived. As Estrada tells it, his dad and uncle are named Jairo and so they just added a 'T' there to make it sound different, to make it sound more American. "I guess my mom knew I would come to the States and that would make it easier on people," Estrada said...Grew up idolizing Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter. Estrada was originally signed by the Yankees as a shortstop and would hear Jeter speak while he was in their minor league system...Thairo and his wife, Lorena , have one daughter, Arantza...Returned home to Venezuela for the first time in four years during the 2022-23 offseason...In January of 2018, Estrada was shot during a robbery attempt while at a café with his wife in his hometown of Bejuma. He missed Spring Training plus the first part of the 2018 season. Doctors were unable to remove the small-caliber bullet but he was cleared to play early in the season. The bullet was removed in July at a hospital in Tampa after a lower back injury in June ended his season.
