A horse named Pee Wee Reese won its race on the 70th anniversary of Jackie Robinson's first game
Outside the Brooklyn Cyclones' stadium stands a statue commemorating the moment that Pee Wee Reese put his arm around Jackie Robinson, a powerful symbol of friendship in the face of racism.
So, it's fitting that on the 70th anniversary of Robinson's debut, and as every Major League player wore No. 42, there was a horse named Pee Wee Reese running a race at Santa Anita Park. Naturally, Pee Wee won.
Under jockey Joe Talamo, the horse named after the Dodgers legend ran the optional claiming mile race in 1:33:78 for his fourth consecutive victory.
