Taylor Featherston's squibber up the first-base line tore the cover off the baseball -- literally

The unpredictability of baseball lends itself to some oddness every once in a while. You never know just what's in store during a given game, as it can throw some curveballs at you every now and then (pun very much intended, obviously). 
In the ninth inning of the Dodgers' 7-2 win over the Phillies on Wednesday, Taylor Featherston was caught up in a decidedly unique scene after hitting a squibber up the first-base line. 
Adrián González made the play, but upon further inspection the ball was missing part of its cover as apparently Featherston's swing removed it? 

Home-plate umpire Chris Conroy couldn't help but crack a smile at the scuffed-up ball upon taking it into his possession after the play.
Remarkably, this isn't even the first time this has happened in the past two days -- as the same situation unfolded in Tampa Bay on Tuesday night when Matt Duffy hit a grounder up the third-base line. 
And even though this isn't quite the intended meaning behind it, we'll take this opportunity to say ... wow, Featherston really tore the cover off that one!
