There are wild pitches, and then there's whatever befell Greg Mahle on Tuesday night in the 75-degree, partly cloudy Bronx air.
In the seventh inning of the Angels' 6-3 loss to the Yankees at Yankee Stadium, Mahle delivered a 1-0 pitch to Brett Gardner that looped behind the Yankees outfielder and came to a landing behind home plate -- but not before poking a hole in an advertising board.
Try that kind of toss at a carnival and you just might wind up taking home a stuffed animal …
