Nineteen new names have been added to the Hall of Fame ballot this year. To celebrate, we took a closer look at some of the most memorable moments from the careers of our favorite newcomers.
Before he made his Yankees debut in 2003, Hideki Matsui had already established himself as a legend of Japanese baseball. In 10 seasons with the Yomiuri Giants, Matsui hit .304/.413/.582 with 332 home runs, including 50 in his final season before making the jump to MLB.
He went on to launch 175 more long balls at the big league level, 140 of which came with the Yankees. Matsui became one of the most popular players in the Bronx on a team loaded with superstars -- of course, hitting .615/.643/1.385 en route to a 2009 World Series MVP probably helped his cause a little bit.
While Matsui accomplished plenty across his two decades of professional baseball, we wanted to focus on one specific moment in the first year of his Major League career: his debut at Yankee Stadium. Check out the clip at the top of the page to see more.
