Joe Maddon put his dad's hat in his back pocket as Game 7 went to extra innings

Just as an already iconic World Series Game 7 was about to head to extra innings, the skies opened up, and the action paused for a quick rain delay. While waiting in the clubhouse, Jason Heyward took it upon himself to deliver a rousing speech to his teammates ... which, as MLB.com's Anthony DiComo explained, allowed Joe Maddon to go grab a quick good-luck charm.
Maddon's dad, Joe Sr., passed away in 2002, back when his son was serving as the bench coach in Anaheim. The younger Maddon started carrying his father's old Angels hat in his bag -- and a few months later, the team won the World Series. So, with Maddon's Cubs so close to snapping a 108-year World Series drought, he decided to bring his dad into the dugout for some extra help -- as you can hear in the clip above.
My dad's been there for the 2002 win in Anaheim, and he was here tonight. I had him stuffed on the back of my pants underneath my hoodie ... after the rain delay. I didn't want to put too much pressure on him.
It's incredible how all this plays out sometimes. You have to believe in order to see things, and I do believe. But it was great to have my dad there for two World Series victories.
