Ray Romano delivered a futon to Ron Darling before Game 6 of the 1986 World Series

Ray Romano called in to Hot Stove on Friday morning to explain why, in his words, he should be able to "take some credit for Game 6" -- that is, Game 6 of the 1986 World Series.
Before he was a comedian and before he was a man everybody loves, Romano was a futon delivery man. And before that fateful game between the Red Sox and the Mets, he delivered one to none other than former Mets pitcher and current MLB Network personality Ron Darling.
Romano told the story:
"I did, on Saturday -- I believe that was the day of Game 6. ... You were scheduled to pitch the next day, right, and it got rained out, and you pitched Monday. We had a delivery, and it said Ron Darling, and I said, 'Well, it can't be the guy. I mean, he's in the World Series. He's not going to be there.' And sure enough, you were there. I don't know what we delivered, but it was in Manhattan and we were all pumped up and excited."
Thanks to what we know about chaos theory and the function of time, we can't say for certain that the Mets would've won that game -- and the championship -- if Romano had not delivered that futon to Darling. So, yeah, I think Romano deserves some credit.
Of course, Darling had no clue who his delivery man was or would be, and wouldn't realize until more than a decade later.
"You wouldn't have known it was me," Romano said. "I had just started doing stand-up -- I was delivering futons for a living."
Watch the video above for more on Romano's futon delivering days, his audition for "Vinyl" and why he roots for both New York teams.
