The Rockies played spoiler in the Cardinals' quest for the NL Wild Card on Wednesday, topping St. Louis, 11-1. Colorado had a pair of five-run innings and racked up 12 hits, including two home runs: Tom Murphy's three-run shot in the seventh inning and Nolan Arenado's emphatic grand slam in the third.
You may be asking, "All those fireworks on a Wednesday afternoon? Any particular reason?"
Well, for Alice Smallwood, of course:
Alice was at Coors Field on Wednesday to celebrate her 100th birthday. Yes, 100 -- as in 67 years older than the Rockies franchise.
Rather nice of the team to put on a show for Alice, wasn't it? Considering the final score, it was probably a happy birthday for Alice indeed.
