What you should watch in the postseason race today: Scully's last Bumgarner-Kershaw duel?
With only two weeks left in the season, every game has the potential to alter the postseason picture. As we enter the final days of the stretch run, we'll spotlight the biggest moments that we know you won't want to miss.
Giants at Dodgers - 10:10 ET
Madison Bumgarner vs. Clayton Kershaw
That's right, we start the stretch run with perhaps the biggest pitching matchup possible. It also could very well be the last time Vin Scully ever calls a Bumgarner-Kershaw game (The Dodgers and Giants meet up again to close the season out from Sep. 30-Oct. 2, but there's no guarantee the two will face off). If that's not must-watch TV, I don't know what is.
Unfortunately for San Francisco (five games back of the Dodgers in the NL West race and just one game ahead of the Cardinals for the second Wild Card), Bumgarner has struggled against Los Angeles this year. The lefty is 0-2 with a 5.63 ERA and has pitched only 16 innings in three starts, including a five-run, nine-hit outing in his last start against the Dodgers on Aug. 23.
Also, keep an eye on Clayton Kershaw as he continues to work his way back from injury. After showing some rust in his first appearance, Kershaw worked five innings of one-hit ball against the Yankees in his last start, getting six whiffs on 16 sliders. With the postseason coming up, he looks well on his way to being the Cy Young Award-winning ace once again.
