Breaking down A's 2016 Top 30 Prospects

Then-general manager Billy Beane tore apart the A's big league roster after the team's painful collapse in 2014, trading away future AL MVP Josh Donaldson as well as Brandon Moss and Derek Norris.  
A slow start and steady descent to the bottom of the AL West in 2015 led to even more trades during the regular season. As a result, the A's Top 30 Prospects list for 2016 is rich with fresh faces and impact talent, many of whom appear poised to contribute in the coming years.

The A's landed lefty Sean Manaea, the club's new top-ranked pitching prospect, in the Ben Zobrist deal, and received Casey Meisner, now its top-ranked righty, from the Mets in exchange for Tyler Clippard.

Franklin Barreto, the A's prized return in the Donaldson deal, is the team's new No. 1 prospect and MLB Pipeline's No. 23 overall prospect, and he's joined in the Top 100 by Manaea (No. 68) and first baseman Matt Olson (100).
Speaking of Olson, he, along with shortstop Chad Pinder, third baseman Renato Nunez, left-hander Dillon Overton and, later, Manaea, helped lead Double-A Midland to a Texas League title in 2015, and all five players are expected to reach the big leagues sometime in the next two seasons.
