OAKLAND -- Rehabbing A's starter Sonny Gray returned to the mound Saturday, albeit on the sidelines, to throw his first bullpen session since going on the disabled list.
Gray, nursing a right trapezius strain, was "letting it go," according to manager Bob Melvin, who said the right-hander "feels good."
Come Tuesday, Melvin said Gray will get on the Coliseum mound to throw several simulated innings without hitters. To this point, a Minor League rehab start has not been discussed, and it's possible Gray could forego one in favor of a simulated game.
He's eligible to return from the disabled list on June 5, and the A's expect him to be back shortly after that date, barring any setbacks.

Saturday's 35-pitch session was a step in the right direction, Melvin noted.
"Now, obviously, he's always grinding on his mechanics and wanting to throw the ball where he wants to, and that's kind of what makes him who he is," Melvin said, "but we're just looking for health."
