Graveman scratched, likely headed to DL

NEW YORK -- A's right-hander Kendall Graveman was scratched from his scheduled start in New York on Friday, and he is likely headed to the disabled list with shoulder soreness.
An injury-riddled A's rotation is also expected to lose Jesse Hahn to the DL with a triceps issue. Lefty Sean Manaea pitched on regular rest in Graveman's place in Friday's series opener, and right-hander Jharel Cotton came into town to start Saturday.
Cotton won't officially be recalled until then, and the A's will have to make another move in Cleveland next week, with right-hander Daniel Mengden the likely fill-in option to start against the Indians.

Graveman was sidelined by the same shoulder injury from April 15-26, and it's assumed he'll be out even longer this time.
"Any time this happens a second time," A's manager Bob Melvin said, "you want to be a little bit more careful with it.
"It was OK for a start or two, and then just kind of there. Last time, when he threw a bullpen, it didn't feel right, and we just didn't want to push it any farther."
Graveman was expected to be re-evaluated Friday, while Hahn underwent an MRI exam that revealed no structural damage. Right-hander Andrew Triggs is the only member of the current rotation that has not spent time on the DL this year.
Alonso on the mend
A's first baseman Yonder Alonso was held out of the starting lineup a second straight game Friday, as he continues to recover from the effects of being hit by a pitch on the right wrist Tuesday night.

Alonso engaged in defensive work and hit off a tee Friday, but it's unlikely he'll be available off the bench until Saturday. Melvin hopes he can start Sunday's series finale.
