A's part ways with assistant hitting, quality control coaches

The A’s announced Thursday that they will not retain hitting coach Chris Cron or quality control coach Marcus Jensen on their 2027 staff.

Cron joined the Athletics in 2022 as an assistant hitting coach and had served as hitting coach, alongside Mike Aldrete, since the start of 2024. Aldrete will remain with the team, as will director of hitting Darren Bush, who heads the team's offensive approach.

This season, the A’s tied for 20th in runs scored but were also affected by injuries to lineup stalwarts such as Nick Kurtz, Brent Rooker, Tyler Soderstrom and Jacob Wilson.

Cron, who played two seasons in the Majors, is the father of former big leaguers C.J. and Kevin Cron.

Jensen, who played for seven teams through a seven-year playing career in MLB, had been on the Athletics’ coaching staff since 2015. He served in multiple roles, including assistant hitting coach, until 2023, when he was moved to quality control coach.
