Aces highlight today's MLB.TV slate

Today's Major League action features several of the game's top hurlers toeing the rubber. The Nationals' Max Scherzer, the White Sox Chris Sale, the Mariners' Félix Hernández and the Orioles' Chris Tillman are each scheduled to start.

Here's what to watch for throughout the day (all times ET):
Braves host Scherzer, first-place Nats: WSH@ATL, 7:10 p.m.
Scherzer, a National League Cy Young Award candidate, has been dominant for much of this season but stumbled in his last start, his shortest outing of the year. He lasted just four innings against the Rockies at Coors Field, allowing four runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out just three batters, his fewest since April 21.
"I just couldn't get in a groove; they made me work for it," Scherzer said after the game. "But at the same time, I've been throwing the ball well. I'm not going to sit here and beat myself up. Just spit this one out, and now I get ready for Atlanta."
Taking the hill for the Braves opposite Scherzer will be right-hander Tyrell Jenkins, looking to come back from a rough start of his own. Jenkins surrendered seven earned runs against these Nationals last Sunday in Washington. He's performed much better at Turner Field (3.10 ERA) than on the road (6.31 ERA), however.
Stat that matters: Right-handed batters have a .180 on-base percentage against Scherzer this season, best among all qualifiers. He's throwing strikes on 72.6 percent of his pitches to righties, which also leads the Majors.

Sale seeks win No. 15: OAK@CWS, 7:10 p.m.
Sale will get another crack -- his seventh -- at securing an elusive 15th victory today when his White Sox host the A's at U.S. Cellular Field. The Chicago ace is 0-4 with a 4.43 ERA since notching his last win on July 2.
"I hold myself to a very high standard," Sale said after his last start, a loss to the Marlins. "When I don't reach that, it's unacceptable. ... I just have to be better."
For Oakland, lefty Ross Detwiler will take the mound. Detwiler rejoined the A's from Triple-A Nashville on Aug. 10 to toss eight scoreless innings against Baltimore, but he stumbled his last time out, yielding five runs in 4 2/3 innings vs. Texas.
Stat that matters: Sale beat the A's earlier this season, on April 4. He's 4-2 with a 3.04 ERA in 11 career games (six starts) against Oakland.

King Felix stars in Interleague matchup: MIL@SEA, 9:10 p.m.
Hernandez will make his second career start against the Brewers in an Interleague matchup at Safeco Field. The Seattle ace is coming off a milestone 150th win for the only club he has known.
"One hundred fifty more and I'll get to 300. That's the goal," Hernandez said with a grin after Monday's win over the Angels.
The Brewers will counter with righty Wily Peralta, who's making his third start since returning to the big leagues. He beat the Reds in his last outing, holding them to one run over six innings in what was his best start of 2016.
"I think I'm in good shape right now; my mechanics have been pretty good," Peralta said. "That's one of the reasons my velocity has been there, has been up in my last few starts. I'm just being consistent with my delivery, that's all."
Stat that matters: Hernandez is typically at his best in Interleague contests. He's 21-9 with a 2.84 ERA in 39 career starts against the National League.
