The defending champion Nationals wasted no time getting their offense going in Thursday's 4-1 loss to the Yankees on a rain-shortened Opening Night. Adam Eaton went deep off Gerrit Cole in the bottom of the first to cut Washington's deficit in half. The last time Eaton and the Nationals saw Cole was in Game 5 of the 2019 World Series.

Giancarlo Stanton had given the Yankees an early lead in the top of the frame with a two-run homer.
