Beltre likes Rangers squad, wouldn't mind more

DALLAS -- Adrián Beltré said he likes the team the Rangers have right now.
"I'm ready to go to war with this team," Beltre said at the Texas Rangers Awards Banquet on Friday night.
But Beltre also knows which free agents are still available. He didn't mention names, but former teammate Mike Napoli is at the top of Texas' list. Beltre made it clear he hopes the Rangers aren't done when it comes to putting their team together.
"No doubt, you never have enough bats," Beltre said. "Obviously we could use some help. We have the team that can go all the way, but the division is strong."
The Rangers' offense took some hits offensively this offseason with the departures of Mitch Moreland, Carlos Beltrán and Ian Desmond, although they re-signed Carlos Gómez. General manager Jon Daniels said Texas is still in contact with a couple of free agents who can fit the role of designated hitter/first base.
The Rangers have been talking to Napoli's agent almost the entire offseason, but have not been able to reach an agreement on length and value of contract.
"I'm not worried about our offense," Beltre said. "If I could put a dream team together, I would. But I know the situation. I know it's difficult putting a team together.
"I know our team is good, but we could use more. There are a couple of guys out there I'd like to wear the Rangers jersey. Hopefully we can sign one or two."
Rangers beat
• Beltre, who will play for the Dominican Republic in the World Baseball Classic, is one of six Rangers committed to playing in the tournament. The others are Jurickson Profar (Netherlands), Alex Claudio (Puerto Rico), Martín Pérez (Venezuela), Jonathan Lucroy (USA) and Sam Dyson (USA).
• Nomar Mazara (Dominican Republic), Robinson Chirinos (Venezuela) and Rougned Odor have yet to commit.
• Yu Darvish said he will not play for Japan. He was on the team that won the tournament in 2009, but the righty does not want to push it after undergoing Tommy John surgery two years ago. Elvis Andrus (Venezuela) and Shin-Soo Choo (South Korea) will not play as well.
