Strained hamstring sending Avila to DL

CHICAGO -- White Sox catcher Alex Avila will be placed on the 15-day disabled list on Wednesday after straining his right hamstring during Tuesday's 9-0 loss to the Yankees at U.S. Cellular Field.
Avila strained the same hamstring at the end of April, which sent him to the DL, and will undergo an MRI on Wednesday morning to gauge the severity.
It was truly a case of adding injury to insult, as Avila hurt himself trying to beat out a grounder that second baseman Rob Refsnyder fielded in short right due to the defensive shift being employed.
"If the second baseman was playing in his normal spot, that wouldn't have happened," said Avila with a resigned smile. "I was trying to beat out the ball, and same hamstring.
"I had it happen, and I could tell right away. Thought maybe it was more of a cramp. Went out to catch the next inning, and going through that inning, I knew that I'd got it, just like earlier."
Avila actually remained in the game for the fifth inning but was replaced by Dioner Navarro in the sixth. Navarro will now serve as the primary catcher, with a corresponding move to be made prior to Wednesday's series finale. Omar Narvaez, who was in big league camp during Spring Training, and the recently acquired Alfredo Gonzalez are possibilities.
"I've been there. I know what he's going through. I've been in the same exact position," Navarro said. "Everybody knows their role, they know what they've got to do, so we've got to keep grinding."
"Earlier in the year, I was out the minimum of two weeks," Avila said. "I hope and expect it will be the same thing. Just try to get it healed as quickly as possible. Since I came off the DL, I haven't had any issues whatsoever. It's definitely a little frustrating and a little strange."
