Cora leading effort to deliver supplies to PR

Red Sox manager Alex Cora is leading the latest relief effort from Major League Baseball in Puerto Rico, the club announced Friday evening.
Boston's skipper has organized a trip to deliver supplies next week to the island, which is still recovering from Hurricane Maria.
Cora will be joined Tuesday by Red Sox ace Chris Sale, catcher Christian Vázquez and team president and CEO Sam Kennedy as well as Boston mayor Martin Walsh and Caguas mayor William Miranda Torres.
The trip will include a stop at Cora's hometown of Caguas, located 16 miles south of San Juan. The group will distribute food and essentials to area families and meet with baseball players from local high schools.
Cora's trip is part of JetBlue's 100x35 initiative to aid recovery efforts in Puerto Rico, where many residents are still without electrical power after the hurricane, which struck in September. They'll deliver nearly 10 tons of supplies, including water filtration systems, first aid kits, food, batteries, flashlights, hygiene products, diapers, toys, baseball equipment and apparel, and medical supplies and vaccines.
Cora, 42, was named Boston's manager in October while he was serving as the bench coach for the World Series-champion Houston Astros. He previously managed the Criollos de Caguas in the Puerto Rican Winter League for five seasons and was also general manager of the Puerto Rican team that finished second in last year's World Baseball Classic.
