Garrett suspended three games for throwing drink on fan

Kansas City Royals pitcher Amir Garrett has received a three-game suspension and an undisclosed fine for throwing a drink on a spectator in the stands during his Club’s Tuesday, August 2nd road game against the Chicago White Sox at Guaranteed Rate Field. Michael Hill, Major League Baseball’s Senior Vice President for On-Field Operations, made the announcement.

The suspension of Garrett had been scheduled to begin prior to Monday's series opener against the Twins at Target Field. However, Garrett has elected to appeal. Thus, the discipline will be held in abeyance until that process is complete.

“I’m pretty upset with myself. I let that get to me," Garrett said following the Royals' 4-2 loss. "But I’ve handled it pretty well. I reached out to the fan. We had dialogue and stuff like that. There was no hard feelings there. I sent a jersey to him and his son, stuff like that. He was very grateful because it could have went south. But he was very kind to me and I was letting him know how upset I was that in the moment I reacted like that.

"It’s an opportunity for me to grow from, learn from. Like I said, I’m a human. I’m going to make mistakes. I wish I never would have reacted in that manner, but I did. So, I never shy away from anything. The news that we got wasn’t ideal, but, hey, you got to accept what the consequences are. So, I’m OK.”

Garrett tweeted out an apology to a fan on Aug. 3, saying that his "actions were uncalled for."
