ATLANTA -- Former National League MVP Andrew McCutchen will have a chance to continue his career within the Braves organization.

McCutchen has signed a Minor League deal with the Braves. The 39-year-old outfielder will soon join Triple-A Gwinnett and gain a chance to prove he can still provide value at the Major League level.

The Braves signed 40-year-old Carlos Santana to a Minor League deal last week to also create depth at the Triple-A level. If nothing else, both veterans are quality clubhouse figures who can positively impact prospects at the affiliate.

McCutchen signed a Minor League deal with the Rangers on March 6 and made their Opening Day roster, despite having an abbreviated Spring Training. He was designated for assignment on May 27, after hitting .192 with a .537 OPS over 37 games (83 plate appearances).

The veteran outfielder hasn’t played since being released by the Rangers.

McCutchen is a five-time All-Star who won the 2013 NL MVP Award with the Pirates. He finished among the top five in MVP balloting over four straight seasons (2012-15) He produced a 106 OPS+ for the 2024 Pirates, but that number dropped to 94 while playing 135 games for Pittsburgh last year.
