WEST SACRAMENTO -- Days after Travis Bazzana’s promotion to the big leagues, another highly-regarded Guardians middle infield prospect got one step closer to reaching The Show.

The Guardians announced Sunday they've promoted shortstop Angel Genao (their No. 3 prospect and No. 57 overall, according to MLB Pipeline) from Double-A Akron to Triple-A Columbus. Cleveland also promoted outfielder Jaison Chourio (No. 11 prospect) and right-hander Justin Campbell from High-A Lake County to Akron.

The Guardians added Genao to their 40-man roster in November, and he played in nine big league games during Spring Training. He enjoyed a strong start this season with Akron, logging a .271/.418/.412 slash line with three doubles, three home runs, 11 RBIs and 22 walks with 20 strikeouts over 24 games.

Genao’s start to the season is more in line with what we saw from him pre-2025, when he reached Double-A for the first time but hit just .259 with a .682 OPS over 77 games with Akron. Genao was limited to just 85 total games in the Minors due to a right shoulder strain that sidelined him until June.

Healthy this spring, he made a good impression on Cleveland’s big league staff.

“I was very impressed with Angel,” manager Stephen Vogt said of Genao in March. “I thought his maturity [stood out]. He did a great job with his body. I mean, this kid's physical, he's strong. But just the confidence that he exudes when he's playing the infield and at the batter's box, we saw a very mature player out there playing. It's really exciting for the future of Angel Genao.”

Chourio, similarly, has enjoyed a good start to 2026 after being impacted by injury last year. He hit .235 with a .664 OPS in 79 games with Lake County in ‘25 while missing time with a right shoulder strain.

In 22 games with the Captains this year, Chourio slashed .317/.431/.476 with seven doubles, two home runs, 18 walks, 18 strikeouts and 10 stolen bases.

Campbell has been one of the best early-season storylines in the Guardians’ farm system. He was the No. 37 overall pick in the 2022 MLB Draft out of Oklahoma State, but underwent multiple right elbow surgeries that delayed his Minor League debut until this season.

Campbell made six starts with Lake County and logged a 2.40 ERA with 22 strikeouts and five walks in 15 innings.
