Shoemaker released from Seattle hospital

OAKLAND -- The best news of the day was the release of pitcher Matt Shoemaker from a Seattle hospital, where he's been since getting hit on the head by a line drive and subsequently undergoing emergency surgery.
Shoemaker will stay in Seattle at least one more night and could return to Southern California as early as Wednesday . The Angels open a homestand Friday night against the Rangers.
"Shoe is a good friend and I've texted him," outfielder Mike Trout said. "He says he's doing good. I'm glad he's returning to us."

Replacing him in the starting rotation is not so obvious. Manager Mike Scioscia said the candidates include right-handers Jhoulys Chacín and Daniel Wright and left-hander Brett Oberholtzer.
Angels GM Billy Eppler said there were no plans to add anyone else to the roster, which means right-hander Tim Lincecum is not a candidate.
"There's no doubt he still has the makings of a Major League pitcher," Scioscia said of Lincecum.
